Life Sciences Technology Transfer Officer (m/f/d)
Fulltime, 40 hours per week, parental leave replacement (limited for 1 year)
Your role
The Life Sciences Technology Transfer Officer supports the Head of Technology Transfer in managing and advancing the commercialization of life sciences innovations. This role involves identifying and evaluating new inventions and the commercial potential of research, protecting intellectual property, facilitating agreements to support tech transfer (collaborations, material transfer agreements), and building strategic partnerships. The Technology Transfer Officer will work closely with researchers, industry partners, and legal advisors to drive technology transfer activities.
Key responsibilities
1. Technology identification, assessment and Commercialization:
- Assist in identifying and evaluating the commercial potential of life sciences innovations and research outcomes
- Assist researchers in preparing invention disclosures and other necessary documentation.
- Identify market opportunities and potential industry partners for technology commercialization.
- Support the development of commercialization strategies and outreach plans for the promising technologies. Assist researchers in preparing invention disclosures and other necessary documentation.
2. Intellectual Property Management:
- Support the Head of TTO to collaborate with researchers to identify and protect intellectual property (IP) through patents, copyrights, and other appropriate means.
- Assist in managing the patent application process, including working with patent attorneys and ensuring timely filings.
- Maintain and update IP portfolios related to life sciences technologies.
3. Collaborations and Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) Management:
- Facilitate the establishment and management of research collaborations between the institution and external partners.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage material transfer agreements (MTAs) to ensure the proper use and transfer of research materials.
4. Market Analysis and Business Development:
- Conduct market research to identify trends, market needs, and competitive landscapes relevant to life sciences technologies.
- Support business development efforts by identifying potential licensees, investors, and strategic partners.
- Assist in the preparation of marketing materials and presentations to promote life sciences technologies
5. Administration and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of technology transfer activities, including IP filings, material transfer, collaboration and licensing agreements
- Prepare reports and presentations for the Head of Technology Transfer and other stakeholders.
Your profile
- Advanced degree (master’s or Ph.D.) in life sciences, biotechnology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in technology transfer, IP management, or a related field, preferably within the life sciences sector.
- Experience in evaluating and commercializing life sciences technologies.
- Strong understanding of biology, biotechnology sector and trends
- Strong understanding of intellectual property laws and the patent application process.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with researchers, industry partners, and legal advisors.
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Proactive and results-oriented approach to technology transfer
- High level of integrity and professionalism.

- Minimum gross monthly salary of EUR 3,800 paid 14 times a year
- Normal working week is 40 hours. Core working time is the working time during which the employee must be present at the workplace. Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 15:00 and Friday from 09:00 to 13:00. A maximum of 1 home office day per calendar week may be used.
- This role is based in Vienna, Austria. You will be required to relocate if you are based elsewhere, and you will receive a generous relocation allowance to support you.
